Like everything with social media, it’s critical to stay on top of trends and the new ways users are consuming information. Since Instagram introduced Reels to the world, the algorithm has never been the same. If you’re trying to increase your reach and audience, you need to be making reels.
Tik Tok, a video-sharing platform, took off like wildfire and reels is Instagram’s spin of that idea. The reach with reels is much larger than a still image. This is a game-changer for growing brands and getting through to new accounts. Here’s an easy step-by-step process on how to make reels for beginners.
How To Make Reels
#1 Select Reel
For starters, you’ll tap the plus icon on the top right corner of your profile, just like you would if you were to post. Instead of selecting “Post”, you’ll select “Reel”.
#2 Pick Your Audio
Instagram provides you with an extensive library of tunes that you’ll choose from for your background audio. However, you have the option to use your own original audio by simply recording a Reel with it. If you share a Reel with original audio it will be attributed to you and if your account is public, anyone can use it.
#3 Incorporate AR Effects
There are many effects to utilize in Instagram’s effect gallery that can add some spice to your Reel. It can be anywhere from a subtle filter to remove blemishes, to full green screens, to dog ears, etc. Many Reel creators use this feature to record multiple clips with different effects.
#4 Use the Timer and Countdown
If you’re a solo artist you can use the handy timer to record any clips hands-free. Once the record button is pressed you’ll have a 3-2-1 countdown before the recording begins.
#5 Seamless Aligns
A big trend in the TikTok and Reels space is transitions. Creators make these seamless transitions by lining up objects from the previous clip before recording the next clip. This is critical for outfit changes or adding new friends for example into the Reel.
#6 Be Mindful of Speed
Speeding up or slowing down a Reel can really change the mood. Choosing the most accurate speed can help you stay on the beat or make slow-motion videos.
There’s such a beautiful diversity with Reels being they can be recorded in a series of clips, one at a time, all at once, or using video uploads from your gallery.
Also if you feel any pressure with posting your first Reel, remember, you can post an MP4 file as a reel to change how your audience sees it.
